ISO Standards & Revision News — Week of July 20, 2026

This week was about dates becoming firm rather than dramatic announcements: the transition deadline for ISO 14001:2026 is now formally fixed, a rewritten overview standard for the ISO 27001 family has landed, and the final vote on ISO 9001:2026 has closed with results expected shortly. Here is what moved across the management system standards over the past week, and what it means for certified organizations in the Philippines.

ISO 14001:2026 — the transition deadline is now firm: 30 April 2029

Trade coverage this week reported confirmation of the transition timeline for the revised environmental management standard published in April. The operative dates for certificate holders come from the accreditation arrangements: under the UKAS transition bulletin, certification bodies must complete their own accreditation transition by 30 April 2027, stop issuing ISO 14001:2015 certificates to new clients by 31 October 2027, and move every certified organization to ISO 14001:2026 by 30 April 2029. For Philippine companies certified to ISO 14001:2015 the advice is unchanged but now carries a hard date: schedule the upgrade at your next surveillance or recertification audit rather than joining the 2028 rush.

ISO/IEC 27000:2026 published — a new map for the ISO 27001 family

ISO and IEC published ISO/IEC 27000:2026, the sixth edition of the overview standard for the information security management family, on 3 July. Analysis circulating this week highlights how different it is: the word “vocabulary” is gone from the title, the list of defined terms has been cut from 77 to 12 (terminology is now maintained on ISO’s Online Browsing Platform), and the document reorganizes how the family of standards fits together. Nothing changes for ISO 27001:2022 certificate holders — the requirements sit in ISO 27001 itself — but Philippine BPO and IT-BPM compliance teams that quote ISO 27000:2018 definitions in ISMS documentation and training materials should note that the reference has moved on.

ISO 9001:2026 — ballot closed, results awaited, September still the target

Voting on the Final Draft International Standard closed on 9 July 2026, according to ISO/TC 176/SC 2, and ISO has not yet formally announced the outcome. The official project page still shows the revision in the approval stage, with publication expected in September 2026. ISO 9001:2015 remains the only certifiable version today. Philippine organizations can put the remaining weeks to good use with awareness sessions and an early gap review, so the formal transition can begin as soon as certification bodies are accredited for the new edition.

ISO/IEC 42001 — AI governance certification is gathering pace

Two announcements a few weeks apart show where AI assurance is heading. US technology services firm Presidio announced ISO/IEC 42001 certification on 15 July — an announcement that also ran on Manila newswires — while customer-experience group Konecta completed a global certification with AENOR in June covering the AI systems behind its CX operations. For the Philippine outsourcing sector this is a signal worth acting on: enterprise clients are starting to ask for auditable AI governance during vendor due diligence, and ISO/IEC 42001 is fast becoming the reference answer.
